Themed ‘My Ambition’, the calendar carried 85 drawings by the 6 – 12 year old students of the 2 schools located at Nyalau village, 60 km from Bintulu.
This was the second time that SALCO had collaborated with the students to produce a calendar – the first calendar project at the end of 2008 saw students contribute artwork on ‘My School’ and ‘My Village’ themes.
SALCO Acting Chief Executive Officer Greg Rashford said working with the communities near the proposed SALCO smelter project site was an important part of the Company’s commitment to sustainable development.

“SALCO will have a long term presence in the community, and we are focused on working with our neighbours to contribute to the long term prosperity of the region, through building capacity in local schools,” said Greg.
“The students and participating schools will receive teaching materials to assist the students’ learning. SALCO team members spent time with the teachers at the schools to find out where we could help and what was needed to improve the students’ performance.”
“Improving educational outcomes means improved outcomes for the community”.
SALCO is continuing with prefeasibility studies to develop a world class smelter at Samalaju, 10 kilometres south of Kuala Nyalau.
